Painting Green is a community eco-paint initiative launched by the Big Help Project in 2016 to help everyone have access to affordable paint. Painting Green takes and redistributes excess paint to the community, handling around 3500 litres per month. We’ve partnered with a number of housing associations to offer paint packages to tenants upon their move-in to go the extra mile in making a house a home.

Did you know…

It is estimated that 55 million litres of paint sold in the UK each year is wasted. This is paint that is either thrown away or stored in homes and garages, despite over 50% of it still being usable.

Currently, only 2% of leftover decorative paint is either recycled or reused. The remaining 98% is either disposed of in a landfill or incinerated.

  • We are proud to be part of the Community RePaint network and stock ReColour, their branded range of remanufactured paint, which is made from 100% reclaimed paint which would otherwise of gone into our waste streams. Their process provides a new lease of life to high-quality surplus stock. ReColour paint currently makes up the majority of paint redistributed by Painting Green, it comes in a range of high-quality emulsions, masonry and chalk furniture paint which provides great coverage, we also work with their water based gloss paint too.

  • Every month Painting Green distributes over 3500 litres of paint to those most in need, including partner charities such as Your Voice Your Choice and the Rhys Jones Centre, as well as housing associations such as One Vision Housing, For Housing, Onward Housing and Riverside. • We partner with local housing associations to provide new tenants with paint packages for when they move in, to go the extra mile in making their new house a home. Not only do tenants receive a vibrant range of paint they’re also provided a starter pack to jump right into their decorating fun. Packs include filler, roller and tray, environmentally conscious Clean Spirit, sanding pads, brushes, and ReColour Paint. This ensures that everyone has easy access to paint and helps reduce the financial burden of a new move.

  • Our range of high-quality remanufactured and trade surplus paint is stocked in Big Help Project Community Shops and as well as their furniture store, Homes With Style. Each shop offers a wide range of paints and accessories at a reduced community-friendly price. We ensure that paint accepted for reuse is of the highest standard, and to make customer browsing easier, we provide colour charts for all tins as well as painting swatches onto the lids of the ReColour tins so customers know the actual colour inside, without the need for opening.
